What does it take to build a race team?

I have been racing since 2000 at Hesston Speedway and I started running at Bedford in 2001, all in the Hobby Stock class.  2006 will be my first season in the Street Stock class.  I plan on racing one or two times at Bedford, but I will be at Hesston as often as I can manage it, hopefully every week, after my engine is complete of course.  As of today, June 17, it should be another week til I get my engine back, so July 1st is my target date.  That will probably change because something always happens to delay things.

Moving up is a lot harder to do than you might think.  There is always something that needs done that you didn't think of or plan on doing.  Everything takes money and time that you have to come up with.  There are a lot more things that will require help from someone, help that isn't around when you need it.  The differences between the Hobby Class and the Street Stocks are more than you thought it would be.  Just the difference in suspension and what you are allowed to do starts to be come confusing if you don't really know what to do.  This season will undoubtedly be a learning season, set up, gearing, engine, and learning to drive again.  I can hardly wait to get in the seat!

About the car. It is a 1983 Monte Carlo chassis with an 82 Grand Prix body, with the Monte SS nose and tail. The engine will be a 406, built by Jerry Fox from Indiana, Pa.,  the same guy the builds Dave Brown's engines.  Although he builds a very stout engine, he is very particular and takes longer than you would really want, I have been waiting since the first week of October 2005.  My brother-in-law Steve (Chamberlain's Service Station)and Dave Brown both urged me to go to him, never dreaming it would take this long.

This car is actually Dave Brown's old Street Stock from 2002 and 2003.  I bought it from him and started changing some things that needed changed and basically freshened up the whole chassis.  I did my own body work and my wife helped to paint the car.  Roy Harding made a pair of doors and the skirts for it, thanks Roy.

What a job!

This is where I work.  I am a Youth Developement Aide at the Youth Forestry Camp at Trough Creek.

Meet My Racing Family

My wife, Michelle, and I own the car, I drive it and the the both of us and our two boys work on it.  Tim Houck was around some in the beginning, but only a couple of times.

Michelle decided this year she would start her own graphics business.  It turns out that I spend a lot of time helping her out with that, so "we" have our own business to get off the ground.  We call it Fuzion Graffix, and it will be the primary sponsor of the car.  If you have seen Mark Shope's Hobby Stock at Bedford, that was our first job.  We did Dave Brown's Ambulance that he uses to pull his car also.  We also have a heat press for vinyl graphics on shirts and hats and other clothing, and we were asked to make the jerseys for the Robertsdale Little League team and the RBTW Minor League team.  We hope that this part of the business will really take off.  We have also made a lot of stickers for other people, stuff like 4 inch numbers of their driver, designs and various other things to put on their car or truck.  If you have something you want done, call us and we'll see what we can do for you.  Our number is 814-928-4031.  Also keep checking back for a link to the website we are planning, we hope to have it up and running soon.

As you can see, there are a lot of people involved with our team, without them, we couldn't do it. Without these great people, I would still be just a fan. See ya at the track!
